Tower Engineering in Vestas Power Solutions is maintaining and developing the complete Vestas tower program. The tasks range from structural engineering over highly specialized FEM calculations, requirements specifications, DFMEA, test planning and execution to risk assessments and compilation of certification documentation.
New Product – Towers a sub-department of Tower Engineering. The department is responsible for the Design of Tower structure, foundation and Internals and certification non-standard towers- Including new development of alternative tower, foundation and Internals concepts as well as offshore towers.
Focus is on securing sound, cost-optimized and production friendly solutions and at the same time fulfilling the overall requirements to safety and functionality for the products. Additionally, process efficiency and lead time reduction is of key importance in order to fulfill Vestas’s overall ambitions of delivering products, which are configured to customer needs in a timely manner.
The team is located at 3 different sites: Aarhus and Lem in Denmark and in Chennai, India. The team consists of 15+ highly skilled design engineers with background in mechanical engineering.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Mechanical Structural Engineer in Tower New products team you will report to the manager of the Tower New Products and your primary responsibility will be driving new technology projects in design of non-standard towers and Internals through structural calculations/ FEA and assist in developing/optimize designs and processes, in particular;
You will Identify opportunities and run technology projects in towers and tower Internals structural parts for wind turbines
Identify and mitigate technical risks within the project scope
Lead technical reviews
Secure technical decision making to get the needed progress in the projects
Manage and align project challenges with stakeholders
FEA-based structural assessments of towers and tower Internal;
Proposing and implementing design improvements & – Documenting the results;
Development and optimization of FE models and post-processing tools;
Participate in development of proprietary software using Matlab, Python or VBA
Qualifications
We see the ideal candidate possessing the following competencies and personality:
Structural design, Analytical calc. & verification
Knowledge of dynamic loaded structures.
Knowledge on Bolted Connections, Fatigue analysis, Fracture Mechanics, Buckling Analysis
FEA (preferably ANSYS Classic / ADPL), –Structural Analysis, Fatigue Analysis and Tools Programming.
Experience in programming and scripting in VBA or similar
Structural certification with DNV etc.
Ability to scope and specify the work to externals consultants
Exposure to technical project management
Technical leadership, and understanding the business and value chain.
High degree of personal planning and able to meet deadlines.
Experienced in executing large projects with multiple stakeholders.
You will need to display keen commercial awareness and understand the business implications of the decisions you make.
You have good communication skills which enable you to convey complex problems to a wide range of stakeholders.
You are process oriented and have a structured way to work

Additional information
Your work location will be at Vestas Technology R&D office at Aarhus, in Denmark. Up to 30 travel days per year shall be expected.
